Our Theme Verse at Faith Community Fellowship is Romans 10:17, “…Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” This verse speaks of four essential elements necessary to know God in a meaningful, saving way.

1. We must have faith. Without faith, we cannot please God. Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

2. The channel through which faith comes, the way God is pleased to grant us this wonderful gift, is the Word of God. This is clearly stated in our theme verse.

3. For the Word of God to be effective in us, as individuals, it must be heard. We must not only hear with our ears, we must also hear with our hearts. We must respond to the God of the Word as He speaks to us in and through the written Word. “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” Hebrews 4:2

4. The Word of God is of paramount importance. It is necessary for salvation, authoritative and clear in its message and complete in its entirety. These thoughts, known as the attributes or characteristics of Scripture, are clearly evident in II Timothy 3:14-17. Look at just verses 14 and 15 of this powerful passage; “But as for you, continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
